Out this week is "Maximum Overload," the sixth album by British headbangers DragonForce. It's the group`s follow-up to 2012's "The Power Within" and marks the first time the quintet used an outside producer, Jens Bogren, rather than the guitar tandem of Herman Li and Sam Totman.
Li tells us it was simply time to make a change: "Sam and I produced the previous five albums ourselves. We thought, 'Let's challenge ourselves and get a top producer guy' and got Jens Bogren from Sweden. He's done a lot of great albums, and we learned a lot from working with a top producer of metal music. It was a really good experience, actually. We got to concentrate on playing our instruments this time rather than worrying about how to record this and what we wanted to do in the studio."
Bogren's previous credits include albums by Amon Amarth, Soilwork, Kreator, the Devin Townsend Project, Dream Theater's James LaBrie and more. "Maximum Overload" is also DragonForce's last album with drummer Dave Mackintosh, who left the band in June and was replaced by Gee Anzalone. The group kicks off a U.K. tour on September 18 and is expected to announce more dates soon.
