Aerosmith drummer Joey Kramer has issued some fightin' words about the Rolling Stones as his band gears up for a European tour.
Kramer boasts to Britain's Classic Rock magazine that, "As far as Aerosmith goes there is no band that's been around for almost 50 years that still has the original five guys in the band. Everybody is always raving about the Stones, saying the Stones this and the Stones that. I've never cared for the Stones. They never had anything to offer me musically, especially in the drumming department. The Stones is not the original band and I do not care for them. I think if you came to see an Aerosmith concert, people would realize that we play so much better than them that it's silly, because they're not so good live. Yeah, they are what they are and all of that, but I don't think there's a band out there today that does what we do."
No word from the Stones camp, or likely to be, about the remarks, but it's ironic given that Aerosmith has long been regarded as an American version of the Stones and the Steven Tyler/Joe Perry nickname the Toxic Twins is a knock-off of the Mick Jagger/Keith Richards Glimmer Twins moniker.
Kramer and company have a chance to prove his words when the Aero-Vederici Baby Farewell Tour kicks off May 17 in Tel Aviv and plays Europe through July 5, with more shows expected to be announced soon.
