Terrifying! Giant Spider Caught On Camera Snatching Cricket
Are you scared of spiders?
If so, read and watch with caution. You just may end up having a week’s worth of nightmares.
The video below, taken from Wild life and Nature Pictures Facebook page, captures a large African Red Trapdoor Spider leaping hiding in its underground dwelling, waiting for just the right time to leap out and grab an innocent momma cricket. According to AnimalsTime.com, trapdoor spiders are known to dig small burrows in forests that camouflage in with the soil. The burrows are covered with a dirt trap-door that the spider leaves half-open to watch its prey. The trapdoor spider moves fast, so when it sees the chance, it pounces on the prey, drags it back into its burrow and slams the trapdoor shut. It’s a short-lived interaction.
When the spider lunges forward to snatch the cricket, it’s cringeworthy and you’ll probably want to look away. For the arachnophobic out there, you may want to consider passing up this wonderful opportunity to see nature take its course. But then again, it’s almost too gross NOT to watch.
Hey, spiders got to eat, too! Who knew this was going on in a spider’s world! And oddly enough, although the trapdoor spider appears to be intimidatingly big in size, it’s not highly toxic to humans, but its bites are excruciatingly painful.
The video has almost 50 million views, 800,000 thousand shares, 423,951 comments, and 162,000 reactions.
We hope you learned something new about this eight-legged creature. Or maybe we just heightened your fear for spiders even more!
