Tom Morello is afraid he may have erred in revealing the existence of unreleased Audioslave songs recently.
Morello spoke about the material earlier this summer, which in the wake of frontman Chris Cornell‘s death in May sparked a furor of excitement among fans. Now, he tells us, everyone needs to simmer down a bit:
“I told the interviewer at the time, ‘I just regretted saying that ’cause now I’m gonna have to talk about it in every interview. There’s no new news; We recorded music for Audioslave records and…we recorded more songs than made those records. I’m certain at some point it will come out, but right now there’s no plans for it…We had talked about it when Chris was alive. We thought at some point there’ll be the right time to put something out. Now I don’t know (if) there’s ever a right time to put it out, but there’s no reason it shouldn’t come out, at some point.”
Audioslave, which also included Morello’s Rage Against The Machine bandmates Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk, was together from 2001-2007 and released three studio albums. The group also famously performed in Cuba and reunited during January of this year for an Anti-Inaugural Ball protesting Donald Trump‘s election.
Morello, Commerford and Wilk are currently part of Prophets Of Rage, which releases its self-titled first album on Friday (September 15).
