Mike Ehrmann / StaffWe all know the true meaning behind “Hakuna Matata” from the hit movie the Lion King, Right?
The song meaning “no worries” is performed in the movie by Timon and Pumbaa. Thanks to two unsuspecting baseball players, it now has a different, sports-related meaning.
Two minor league baseball players accidentally made the Disney reference just by being born. Ronald Acuña and soon-to-be (well, hopefully) Chicago White Sox player, Yoan Moncada posed next to each other at the Major League Baseball Futures game.
MLB Pipeline captured the moment this past Sunday and realize their names together sort of sound like the Lion King hit. For those who do not know a lot about the minor league sports world, the MLB futures is a talent showcase. Baseball prospects play in the annual event to show off their talents in the hopes that a professional recruiter will be in the audience.
Fans watching the minor league game got a kick out of Acuña and Moncada standing next to each other. Needless to say, there was a series of Lion King-inspire jokes all over Twitter. One of our favorite tweets read “It means no worries (for the World Team)” and was attached to the image.
We know there are some sports fans reading this article and thinking to themselves “well, that’s not how you pronounce his last name”. So, we do have to point out that Acuña is pronounced “Acun-ya”.
Regardless of how it is pronounced, it was a hilarious moment in time that led to some amazing Twitter jokes. It never ceases to amaze us how clever some individuals can be!
