5 Rockers Who Caught “The Acting Bug”
Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong celebrates his birthday today (February 17), and in addition to business with Green Day, the frontman has been scoring more acting roles in recent years.
Of course, he’s not the first rock star who’s caught the acting bug. In honor of Armstrong’s birthday, here are a few other actors with some notable film/TV credits.
Billie Joe Armstrong
Armstrong made the leap to leading man in 2016 in the indie film Ordinary World, where he plays a dad who throws a birthday party for himself in an effort to get his edge back.
James Hetfield
The Metallica frontman man news this week with the announcement of him being cast in Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, And Vile. The film explores the relationship between serial killer Ted Bundy and his girlfriend, who are being portrayed by Zac Efron and Lily Collins, respectively. Hetfield will be playing Officer Bob Hayward, the first law enforcement officer to arrest Bundy.
Flea
The Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist has had a number of film credits over the year, but his most popular turn on the silver screen would have to be as Needles in Back to the Future Part II.
Courtney Love
Love’s been able to string together a pretty good acting resume over the years, with critically acclaimed turns in 1999’s Man on the Moon and even being nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance in 1996’s The People vs. Larry Flynt. Recently, she’s guest stared on Fox’s Empire.

Jack White
Who could forget White as Elvis Presley in the music biopic spoof Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story? Honestly, his impression is pretty good.
