Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue were performing at the Voodoo Threauxdown festival in Los Angeles over the weekend when Dave Grohl joined them on drums to perform the Nirvana classic. It marked just the second time Grohl performed the song since the passing of Kurt Cobain, with the first time taking place at Nirvana’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014.
Grohl’s relationship with Trombone Shorty goes back to 2014 when the New Orleans music figure sat down for an interview on the HBO series Sonic Highways, which chronicled the making of the Foo Fighters’ album of the same title.
