The Recording Academy just announced a new batch of performers for the 61st GRAMMY Awards airing live on Sunday, February 10 on CBS and they include the Red Hot Chili Peppers. However, they will be joining Post Malone on stage, whose performance was previously announced. Whether or not this will count of the “token rock act” of the night has yet to be determined.
The Recording Academy brass does seem pretty excited for this performance saying it’s “bound to be an unforgettable GRAMMY moment. Frankly, judgment will be reserved for the night of the telecast. It should be noted that the Chili Peppers aren’t up for any GRAMMYs this year. How they were chosen for this performance is unknown, but hopefully, more details will come out in the coming days.
This isn’t the first time Post Malone has performed with a veteran rock act on an awards show. He famously (or infamously, depending on your opinion) performed with Aerosmith on the 2018 MTV VMAs. He performed his hit “Rockstar” and then dueted with Aerosmith on “Dream On” and “Toys in the Attic” before a young crowd that clearly wasn’t familiar with the latter song of the medley.
