Harley Race, eight-time NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion, has died. He was 76.

Race has been battling lung cancer, and according to his Twitter account, that battle ended today (August 1). Race's Twitter confirmed his passing in the following tweet: "Today at 12:50, we lost the man that fought up until the very last of his existence. More information will be released soon, but just know that he loved pro-wrestling and the fans that loved him. Harley Race, we love you."

While Race did stints with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) and World Championship Wrestling (WCW), he is best known for his time with the American Wrestling Association (AWA) and its overall governing body/promotion the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA), where he was the eight-time NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion. He would latter be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2004 and the NWA Hall of Fame in 2005.

Many figures in the wrestling world took to Twitter to pay their respects to the late NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship.
