Woman Goes Blind After Having Her Eyes Tattooed Black
For those out there thinking about tattooing the whites of your eyes a different color, make sure you go to a tattoo artist with experience in tattooing eyes, because a 25-year-old woman from Poland is now blind from the procedure.
Per The Daily Mail, Aleksandra Sadowska was inspired by Polish rap artist Popek to get the whites of her eyes tattooed black because he did the same to his eyes. The tattooing went awry, and shortly after losing the sight in her right eye, her doctor told her she would lose the sight in her left eye, too.
The tattoo artist is now facing up to three years in prison for “unintentionally severely disabling” Sadowska. The Daily Mail notes that an investigation into the tattoo artist found they used the wrong kind of ink on Sadowska’s eyes. They used body ink, which isn’t supposed to come in contact with eyes.
Sadowska’s lawyer said in a statement, “There is clear evidence that the tattoo artist did not know how to perform such a delicate procedure, and yet he decided to perform it which led to this tragedy.”
