EA Announces FIFA 20 “Stay And Play Cup” Featuring Pro Players
The premier soccer sim in the land is throwing a special charity event for COVID-19 relief. Today, EA announced the FIFA 20 Stay And Play” Cup adding on to their “Stay Home, Play Together” campaign. The field will be made of entirely of pro-footballers who are all also on stay-at-home orders.
The “Stay And Play Cup” is a knockout bracket with over 20 pro soccer players representing their teams. All the top leagues in Europe are present with much of the squads coming from Northern Europe. The English Premier League has the most clubs going with Machester City, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool all confirmed as participants. However, in EA’s press release, there was no word on specifically which players are playing in the tournament. The charity stream sets out to raise funds for Global Giving’s Coronavirus Relief Fund, and viewers will have the chance to donate during the event. EA’s CEO, said
“We want to bring the global football community together with the EA SPORTS FIFA 20 Stay and Play Cup, so millions of fans can experience the thrill of their favorite clubs and professional footballers playing — even when we have to be apart,”
Andrew Wilson – EA CEO
Earlier this year, the top level of Spanish Soccer, La Liga, sponsored a similar event with streamer Ibai Llanos. In that event, La Liga pros took to the sticks for charity with Real Madrid’s Marcos Asensio winning out. However, that was not organized or managed by EA as the Stay And Play Cup is. With the developer running the event, the Cup’s stream will have in-game content drops. So watching the event can hopefully net you a reward to help you win some Cups of your own.
The Stay And Play Cup begins on April 15th and ends April 19th but EA has already pledged $1 Million to the Coronavirus Relief Fund.
