A man in Maryland may officially be the first person vaccinated against COVID-19.
Per the New York Post, "David Rach did a trial in May at the University of Maryland, where US pharmaceutical giant Pfizer and German firm BioNTech are working together in the global race to create a vaccine." The reports show that the vaccine is "stimulating the growth of antibodies at rates equal to or higher than those who have the illness."
Rach talked about the trial, saying, "There is a component of relief seeing that it’s actually producing results, that the vaccine is producing antibodies."
Although Rach, a graduate immunology student, did the trial, he is not certain if he was given the actual vaccine or a placebo saline solution. He explains, though, that he had a slight reaction after the second dose, so he's convinced he has been vaccinated.
As the New York Post adds, Rach will be tested in October to determine if he has immunity against the virus.
