Ship Stuck In Suez Canal Finally Freed
SUEZ, EGYPT - MARCH 29: The container ship 'Ever Given' enters Great Bitter Lake after it was refloated, unblocking the Suez Canal on March 29, 2021 in Suez, Egypt. This morning the container ship came partly unstuck from the shoreline, where it ran aground in the canal last Tuesday, and later resumed its course shortly after 3pm local time. The Suez Canal is one of the world's busiest shipping lanes and the blockage had created a backlog of vessels at either end, raising concerns over the impact on global shipping and supply chains.
The massive cargo ship that has blocked the Suez Canal for more than a week has finally been freed, officials say.
The Suez Canal Authority says tugboats were able to dislodge the ship’s bow, after freeing the stern earlier on Monday.
The 1,300-foot ship is now being pulled to an area called the Great Bitter Lake to be inspected.
It’s not clear exactly when normal canal traffic will be able to resume. About 367 ships are currently backed up on either side – a backlog that could take more than a week to clear out.
