A Bot Attempted To Write A Nirvana Song: ‘Drowned In The Sun’
Last year, we reported on a bot that wrote a song in the style of the Red Hot Chili Peppers (cheekily called “the Red Bot Chili Peppers”).
Now, a bot has created an approximation of what a new Nirvana song might have sounded like. Rolling Stone reports that an organization has created a “new” Nirvana song using artificial-intelligence software to approximate Kurt Cobain’s songwriting.
The vocals were recorded by Nirvana tribute band frontman Eric Hogan, but the song’s creators say nearly everything on the song — from the songwriting to the instruments — is the work of computers. The creators are a group called Lost Tapes Of The 27 Club; they use AI to approximate what songs by artists including Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison and Amy Winehouse, might have sounded like. Like Cobain, all of those artists died at the age of 27.
