The series finale of Dexter aired on September 22, 2013, and is generally thought of as one of the most disappointing endings of all time. But Showtime is surely looking to do a better job with a 10-episode limited revival. And they’ve just released our first glimpse of what’s been going on with Michael C. Hall’s Dexter Morgan in a new 30 second teaser.

When we last saw Dexter, he sailed into a hurricane in his hometown of Miami, somehow survived, and ended up on the other side of the country in the Pacific Northwest. By the looks of the trailer, he’s still there. And if you watch carefully — and keep your eye on the reflection in the window that he’s looking out of — you’ll see that he’s up to his old tricks. The scene is set to Nina Simone’s “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood.”

As in the opening credits to the original series, at the end of the segment, Dexter looks at the camera and we hear a cute little “ding,” telling us that not much has changed other than the location. Returning Dexter showrunner Clyde Phillips told The Hollywood Reporter that the series will show the passage of time since the finale. “We basically do get to start from scratch. Ten years, or however many years, have passed by the time this will air, and the show will reflect that… So far as the ending of the show, this will have no resemblance to how the original finale was. It’s a great opportunity to write a second finale.”

He also admitted that this gives them a second chance to end Dexter’s story. “We’re not going to betray the audience and say, ‘Whoops, that was all a dream.’ What happened in the first eight years, happened in the first eight years.”

There’s no word yet as to which, if any, other cast members will return. There has been a lot of speculation over whether or not Yvonne Strahovski’s Hannah McKay will return (Strahovski is also a cast member of Hulu’s Handmaid’s Tale , which just returned for its fourth season this week).

The season is scheduled to air in the fall.
