‘South Park’ Renews Through 2027, 14 Films Headed to Paramount+
South Park isn’t going anywhere any time soon, and fans can expect 14 (!) new films featuring everyone’s favorite foul-mouthed children on Paramount+.
MTV Entertainment Studios announced today (August 5) they struck a deal with South Park co-creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone to extend the long-running Comedy Central animated series through to 2027, which will be the show’s 30th season. On top of that, Parker and Stone will create 14 original “made-for-streaming” South Park films for Paramount+. Two films are expected in 2021.
While the press release of the announcement didn’t mention the price tag of this deal, Vulture reports it’s worth a whopping $900 million. This deal is nearly double the one made for the series’ streaming rights. In October 2019, WarnerMedia’s streaming service HBO Max secured the streaming rights to South Park for somewhere between $500-$550 million.
In a joint statement, Parker and Stone said, jokingly, “Comedy Central has been our home for 25 years and we’re really happy that they’ve made a commitment to us for the next 75 years.
