Jersey Magazine 11-7-21
Each week on the Jersey Magazine we pick topics of local interest to our listeners.
As we head into November, Jim Monaghan has two guests on the show this morning – musician and artist manager Gary Waldman, and United States Navy Officer Candidate Frank Silvestri.
Morris County native Gary Waldman has been in the music and live event business for more than 30 years, working as a record label executive, artist manager and tour producer. Gary was a close friend and confidante of Neal Casal, who tragically committed suicide in August, 2019. As someone who was with Neal from the start of his career, Gary wanted to keep Neal’s music and legacy alive, and he founded the Neal Casal Music Foundation, where he serves as executive director. The foundation has raised more than $100,000 and placed musical instruments into local schools.
Highway Butterfly: The Songs of Neal Casal, which is being released on November 12, is a tribute to the life and music of the gifted singer, songwriter, musician, and friend to many. Featuring 41 of Neal’s songs on 5 LPs or 3 CDs, the collection brings together an amazing array of rock and roots music luminaries to reimagine the body of work he left behind, while celebrating his enduring impact as an artist. All the proceeds from the project are going to the Neal Casal Music Foundation.
Frank Silvestri is a graduate of Cranford High School, and Rutgers University. He is currently in Newport, RI where he is about to wrap up Officer Candidate School in his journey to become a Navy officer. With Veterans’ Day coming later this month, Jim and Frank discuss what led him to a career in the Navy.
ROCK N’ RUFF – This week to kick off November, Terrie Carr features two great adoptables from Jersey Girl Animal Rescue.!
COACH SHEETS’ RIDE IN – Jeremy Sheetinger is the head baseball coach at Georgia Gwinnett College where he led the Grizz Gang to the 2021 NAIA National Championship. His weekly “fire me up” tweet every Thursday may, on the surface, be geared toward his fellow baseball coaches, but his motivational message can easily be applied to the classroom, workplace, and your personal relationships. This week, Coach Sheets speaks to the importance of having, and acknowledging, a strong support staff in our lives.
