It's no secret that Taylor Momsen of The Pretty Reckless is tight with rock royalty, especially acts from the '90s. And earlier this week at The Pretty Reckless' show at Seattle's Moore Theatre, Soundgarden guitarist Kim Thayil made a surprise guest appearance at their show.
During the show, which also saw a guest appearance from Ayron Jones, Thayil appeared during The Pretty Reckless' set. He joined them for "Only Love Can Save Me Now" and a cover of Soundgarden's "Loud Love." This isn't Thayil's first time working with Momsen. He performed on the studio version of "Only Love Can Save Me Now" with bandmate Matt Cameron, off The Pretty Reckless' 2021 album, Death by Rock and Roll.
Thayil came onstage right before the guitar solo in "Only Love Can Save Me Now." Momsen announced his arrival, saying, "It is my honor to introduce the legendary Kim Thayil." View fan-filmed clips of both songs below.
After the show, Momsen took to Instagram to post a photo from the performance, captioning it, "Thank you to the legendary Kim Thayil for joining us for an unforgettable night at Seattle's Moore Theatre... I'm once again humbled to share the stage with you my dear friend, what an amazing human being."
The Pretty Reckless are currently on tour with Greta Van Fleet. Thayil, meanwhile, has a new project called 3rd Secret, which also includes Matt Cameron, as well as former Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic, guitarist Bubba Dupree, and vocalists Jennifer Johnson and Jillian Raye. He doesn't perform that often, but in 2020 took part in the Museum Of Pop Culture's tribute to Alice In Chains, playing "Drone" with Novoselic's band Giants In The Trees. At the same event, he teamed up with singer Shania Shepherd for "It Ain't Like That" and "What The Hell Have I?" the latter of which didn't air as part of the live stream. Finally, he also played "Angry Chair" with "Tadgarden," featuring Cameron, Soundgarden's Ben Shepherd, TAD singer Tad Doyle, Pearl Jam's Mike McCready and singer Meagan Grandall.
