Jersey Magazine 9-11-22
Each week on the Jersey Magazine we pick topics of local interest to our listeners. This week, Jim Monaghan talks with Elizabeth Roithmayr-Clemens the New Jersey Executive Director for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, and Karin Szotak whose son CJ committed suicide in 2020.
September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. As you may know, suicide is the 12th leading cause of death in the United States.
Elizabeth Roithmayr-Clemens is the Executive Director, New Jersey for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. The organization does amazing work in helping to prevent suicide including a number of “Out of the Darkness” fundraising walks in New Jersey during the fall months. WDHA’s Terrie Carr will be participating in the Essex County walk on October 30.
Karin Szotak is Team Captain for “Walking In CJ’s Shoes” for this year’s Out of the Darkness Community Walk happening Saturday September 17 at Cougar Field in Chatham Township.
Karin lost her son CJ to suicide in July 2020, a tragic event that rocked both her family and the entire town of Madison.
This week, Rock N’ Ruff introduces us to Duke from Eleventh Hour Rescue in Randolph. Duke is 9 months old, calm, smart, loyal and sweet and loves living in his fosster home with his three canine foster siblings who live with him- YUP- He loves other dogs! Duke is a beautiful black/brindle color, house-trained and is easy on his leash. We would love to see Duke find his forever family and be able to start his new puppy chapter.
COACH SHEETS’ RIDE IN – Jeremy Sheetinger is the head baseball coach at Georgia Gwinnett College where he led the Grizz Gang to the 2021 NAIA National Championship. His weekly “fire me up” tweet every Thursday may, on the surface, be geared toward his fellow baseball coaches, but his motivational message can easily be applied to the classroom, workplace, and your personal relationships. Have a meeting you have to lead, or a public speaking engagement coming up? Those nerves can be calmed. Take a listen to the Coach this morning.
