Jersey Magazine 1-8-23
Happy New Year and welcome to 2023. Each week on the Jersey Magazine we pick topics of local interest to our listeners. This week, Jim Monaghan continues with creative ways to approach the New Year courtesy of Laura Gassner Otting, and brings in local musician Joe D’Urso with details on this year’s Light of Day shows.
The New Year is always full of well-intentioned resolutions and goals, all designed to (hopefully) make a difference in our lives.
All too often, those lofty things we set out to achieve fall by the wayside within a few weeks.
Laura Gassner Otting is a bestselling author, motivational speaker, and media personality who offers an interesting take on a better way to start the new year – aim low.

The Light of Day Foundation has announced WinterFest 2023, the annual music festival taking place January 7-20 in Asbury Park, Red Bank, Montclair, New York City and Philadelphia.
Joe D’Urso has been a part of the Light of Day shows since the very beginning, and in fact, is the president of the LOD Foundation. Along with his band Stone Caravan, he will be performing at a number of this year’s shows including “Night of Covers” at the Silverball Museum in Asbury Park where his opening act will be Dead Aire which includes WDHA’s Jim Monaghan.
All of the details for this year’s shows are here on the LOD website.
This week on Rock N’ Ruff, say “hello” to Peppermint Patty from Randolph Regional Animal Shelter. This beautiful girl is so friendly, happy and affectionate. She is always smiling! After being found in Paterson after being hit by a car, she is totally fine and waiting for a family to call her own. She loves attention, walks, car rides and EVERYONE!
COACH SHEETS’ RIDE IN – Jeremy Sheetinger is the head baseball coach at Georgia Gwinnett College where he led the Grizz Gang to the 2021 NAIA National Championship. His weekly “fire me up” tweet every Thursday may, on the surface, be geared toward his fellow baseball coaches, but his motivational message can easily be applied to the classroom, workplace, and your personal relationships. “Your Uncle Sheets” is in Nashville this weekend at one of the biggest national conventions for baseball coaches from all over the country. His message this week is an interesting thought for the New Year – ambition without perspective is more ego than direction.

Here’s one to kick off 2023:
Ambition without perspective is more ego than direction.
🤯
But we need that reminder sometimes… We know where we want to go but don’t let EGO drive you there! Keep it in perspective!
