80’s at 8: January 20, 2022- Thin Lizzys & The Scorpions
Tonight’s 80’s at 8 started with a track from Thin Lizzy’s twelfth and the final album from 1983 Thunder and Lightning titled “Heart Attack.”
The album in my opinion and features some awesome tracks like “Heart Attack,” “Cold Sweat” which was their biggest hit from the album, Baby Please Don’t Go, This is The One, Some Day She Is Going To Hit Back, and The title track Thunder and Lightning.
Guitarist John Sykes was hired to replace Snowy White after 1981’s Renegade, and Sykes helped to provide a heavier sound and guitar tone than Thin Lizzy had used on previous albums.
And they accomplished that! Sadly there was no music video made for “Heart Attack” by Thin Lizzy but you can take a listen to it here:
The second track in tonight’s 80’s at 8 is from The Scorpions’ 1981 album Blackout titled “Can’t Live Without You.” It was the second single released from the album and it reached #47 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Chart.
The album was certified Platinum in the US and reached #10 on the Billboard 200 Album Chart. Lead Singer Klaus Meine lost his voice while recording the album and had to undergo surgery on his vocal cords.
The band and Klaus were not sure that he would be able to record the record so they turned to Don Dokken. Demos of the material were recorded with singer Don However none of those recordings are featured on the album and Dokken is only credited with backing vocals.
Obviously, Klaus was able to sing on the album. Rolling Stone magazine ranked Blackout 73rd on their list of “The 100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time” in 2017.
There is no music video for this song but you can check out The Scorpions performing “Can’t Live Without You” Live at the Oakland Coliseum Stadium in Oakland, CA on Aug 31, 1985, here:
