Practice These Habits If You Want To Live Longer
If you’re like me, getting a good night’s sleep is tough. Sometimes, I wake up for various reasons. Sometimes, I’m just enjoying my night and don’t feel like heading to bed. Either way, we all know how important getting a full night of good rest is.
But did you know that there’s more to good health than just getting seven or eight hours of sleep each night? researchers at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston found that there are five sleep habits that can add years to your life as well as reduce the risk of dying from diseases including cancer and heart disease.
The researchers note that all five of these habits should be practiced. You can actually live longer by doing so. and don’t we all want that?
Here’s a rundown of the 5 key sleep habits to practice or get under control:
- 7 or 8 hours of sleep a night
- Difficulty falling asleep no more than twice a week
- Trouble staying asleep no more than twice a week
- Not using any sleep medication
- Feeling well rested when waking up at least five days a week.
I’m guilty of not always getting the proper amount of rest. As I mentioned, sometimes I like just sitting up with my wife, watching something mindless on tv. But maybe if I could get to bed a little earlier that would help.
as for trouble falling asleep, I know so many people who deal with this. however, there are plenty of things to try to combat this. From sleep masks to practicing a guided meditation at bedtime. There’s most likely something you can find that will help you fall asleep and stay asleep longer.
It’s worth a shot, so we can live longer and have more fun getting older and heading to our favorite rock shows in our golden years!
