How You Can Tell When Someone Is Lying
Whether you’re caught up in workplace gossip or having a situation at home, sometimes you wonder if the person you’re speaking with is being completely honest with you.
It’s frustrating because I see in a lot of movies and TV shows, people being able to tell when another person is lying. Personally, I don’t think I’m very perceptive at picking up on that.
Well, I just came across a fascinating article on the Business Insider website. They spoke with a psychotherapist who’s trained the FBI and CIA and came up with a list of some signs someone is lying to you.
It’s pretty interesting. Maybe next time you’re trying to determine if someone is being truthful to you, you could use these tips!
- Liars talk too much — Truthful responses are short and direct.
- Liars try to sell you the truth — When someone’s telling you the truth, they’re not interested in convincing you of anything. They only want to tell you the truth. Liars over-explain stuff in an attempt to convince you they’re being honest.
- Liars are relieved when the conversation is over — Lying can be exhausting, which is why they’re relieved once they’re done talking.
- Liars smile with their mouths, not their faces — The smile doesn’t include the upper part of the face, but the bottom of the face only.
- Liars pretend to be calm — They often try to portray the image of somebody who is confident by doing stuff like stretching out and yawning.
- Liars’ stories are too perfect — If the story has no holes and sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
I find that when I’m speaking, sometimes I do some of these things. But – I wouldn’t call myself a liar. So, when you’re using these signs, just keep in mind, nothing is 100% accurate!
