80’s at 8 Thursday 3-23-23 Rockturnal with Scotty B
Tonight’s 80’s at 8 I rocked two deep cuts. The first deep cut was from Motley Crue’s 1981 debut album Too Fast For Love. That deep cut is titled Merry Go Round. It has always been a stand-out track from the album to me. It’s a well-crafted leaning on the ballad side but it’s not really a ballad.
Merry Go round has balls and a kick to it which I love! The album only reached #77 on the Billboard 200 album chart. Not bad for the debut from four wild misfits from the clubs on Sunset Strip. It reached Platinum status in the US. Too Fast For Love is my second favorite Motley Crue album.
My number one is Shout at the Devil. Too Fast For Love is widely considered a classic in the world of heavy metal and hard rock music. It showcases the raw, energetic, and unapologetic sound that would become synonymous with the group’s name. One of the most notable things about “Too Fast For Love” is the way it seamlessly blends elements of heavy metal, punk, and glam rock.
Despite the album’s initial lack of commercial success, “Too Fast For Love” has gone on to become a cult classic, and is considered by many fans and critics to be one of the band’s best works. The album’s influence can be seen in the music of countless other hard rock and heavy metal acts that have emerged since its release.
Overall, “Too Fast For Love” is an essential listen for anyone interested in the history of heavy metal and hard rock. Its raw energy, genre-bending sound, and undeniable hooks make it a timeless classic that still resonates with fans today. The second deep cut that was rocked in tonight’s 80’s at 8 is one of my all-time favorite 80’s bands Quiet Riot. Don’t Wanna Let You Go happens to be one of my favorite deep cuts from their Metal Health album. I guess you could say it falls in the ballad category but to me, it’s not a full-on ballad. That is just my weird opinion.
Metal Health is one of my all-time favorite albums ever! It was released in 1983, I got the vinyl album and literally played it day and night. i played it when I woke up to go to school and played it over and over when I got home from school. I was obsessed with the band and the album at the time needless to say. I had a chance to see them in Tallahassee, Fl that year. My ticket was $25.00 yes $25.00. I was over the F’ing Moon. The week before they were supposed to perform they F’ing canceled! I was devastated. They never ever came to Tallahassee! I still love them and the album.
“Metal Health” helped to solidify the mainstream success of heavy metal as a genre. The album’s chart-topping success helped to pave the way for other metal bands like Def Leppard and Bon Jovi to achieve massive commercial success in the 1980s and beyond.
Overall, “Metal Health” is a must-listen for anyone interested in the history of heavy metal music. Its blend of catchy hooks, heavy guitar riffs, and sing-along choruses helped to define the sound of the genre for years to come, and its impact is still felt in the music of countless metal bands today.
