Ivan Moody is currently on the shelf due to recovery from hernia surgery. News broke yesterday (April 25) that this has led Five Finger Death Punch to withdraw from their opening slot during Metallica's April 29 show in Amsterdam. Shortly after this news, the singer took to Instagram to detail his hernia surgery recovery.
Moody begins his video thanking fans for their support. He then says he "landed the hernia lottery" and reveals he actually had three hernias.
Moody explains he was at a shoot for a video, and while jumping around, he "felt something pop." He shook it off, and then he went to rehearsal the following day. During rehearsal, he felt "something was a little off," so he went to the doctor. Moody says, "He sat me down, and he told me that he was surprised that I was still walking."

He continued, "He informed me that I had three hernias and offered to do them right then and there. It was quick. I thought it would have been easy, however having all three done at the same time was a shock to my system, to say the least, using, of course, my diaphragm and my stomach to sing. As you can hear in my voice, I can’t really talk that heavy right now. To be honest, it's excruciating sitting upright.
Moody added, "Anyway, he explained to me that the best thing to do would be to get it done now instead of prolonging it, having it rip and get worse, so that’s what I did. Again, my body didn’t take it as well as I thought it would, so here I am, not working."
He closed the video thanking Metallica for their understanding as he recovers. Moody also mentioned that while he was prescribed narcotics to deal with the pain, he opted to use Ibuprofen and his Moody Medicinals CBD/Cannabis brand in order to maintain his sobriety.
Fortunately, Moody is on track to recover in time for 5FDP's next show with Metallica, which is slated for May 19 in Paris.
