N.J. Weather: 2 Storms Heading To The Garden State This Weekend

New Jersey has some wet weather approaching for the next few days. According to the National Weather Service, the Garden State is expecting rain downpours and winds up to 60mph this weekend. The heaviest rain is set to begin Friday afternoon to Friday night. The rain will also have wind speeds between 15 to 25 mph. Wind gusts are predicted at 30 to 35 mph through Saturday morning.

“Rain from the first storm will be mainly beneficial, other than the impacting outdoor activities at the start of the weekend,” said AccuWeather forecasters.

Saturday will be mixed throughout the state. South Jersey will dry out, while the northern half will continue with rain through Saturday afternoon. Saturday is expected to have an inch to an inch-and-a-half of rain.

Saturday night, however, should be dry as we move into Sunday morning before the second and “more potent storm arrives,” NJ.com reports. The weather system has not yet reported any specific details on what to expect Sunday but AccuWeather.com is predicting “heavy rain, gusty winds and raw conditions” from late Sunday afternoon through Sunday night.

The second storm is really to begin coming Sunday into Monday. It has the potential to become a “bomb cyclone,” per AccuWeather.

“The storm may draw a narrow plume of tropical moisture that extends from the Caribbean Sea to the Northeast states, which will enhance rainfall rates,” AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Brett Anderson said of this second storm. “Some locations may pick up 3–4 inches of rain in several hours, which would certainly create flooding issues in low-lying and poor drainage areas.”

The rain in New Jersey is the result from a storm off the mid-Atlantic coast, AccuWeather.com says. Windy conditions that could lead to coastal flooding are also a concern.

According to News 12 New Jersey, “Weather clears by the end of next week and temperatures warm into the 70s.”

Actor Michael Caine is featured in an uncredited cameo as a policeman in one of his earliest feature roles.

  Inspired by a true story, “Only the Brave” surrounds the real-life Granite Mountain Hotshots, an elite firefighting group in Prescott, Arizona. While fighting the Yarnell Hill Fire in June 2013, 19 of the 20 crew members lost their lives battling the blaze, and the film is dedicated to them. The screenplay is based on the GQ article entitled “No Exit” by Sean Flynn.

• The Perfect Storm (2000)

  Based on Sebastian Junger’s nonfiction book of the same name, “The Perfect Storm” details the story of the fishing vessel Andrea Gail, which was caught in between three major weather fronts that collided on Halloween in 1991. In this film, a crew of brave men and women must fight to survive nature out in the North Atlantic. While some of the families of the real-life crew members attempted to sue the filmmakers for their fictionalized portrayal, the cases were ultimately dismissed.

• The Poseidon Adventure (1972)

  On New Year’s Eve, a passenger ship en route to Greece from New York City is met with a massive tidal wave, overturning the vessel. With the ship’s captain dead, the remaining survivors must band together and evade a myriad of various obstacles as they make a desperate bid for escape. The 1972 film was based on the novel of the same name by Paul Gallico, and a sequel, “Beyond the Poseidon Adventure,” was released in 1979.

  After sustaining serious injuries from a bear attack, 1820s frontiersman Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) discovers a member of his hunting team has killed his young son. The film had a notoriously difficult shoot, with crew members enduring unbearably cold conditions and many were fired or quit.

Directed by Bong Joon-ho, the film marked the South Korean director’s English-language debut.
