80 ‘s at 8 Rockturnal With Scotty B Monday 05-08-23
Tonight’s 80’s at 8 was a I’m From Jersey 80’s at 8. I featured two top rock artist from the Garden State and the first was Freehold , NJ native Bruce Springsteen AKA The Boss. Bruce is known as an originator of “Heartland Rock”, Aa genre combining mainstream rock with poetic and socially conscious lyrics that tell a story about working class American life. Through his career Bruce has released 21 albums w tone of hits. He has had multiple platinum albums. In fact, he is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, with more than 150 million records sold worldwide.
According to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), Springsteen has 20 albums that have been certified platinum or multi-platinum in the United States. These include classics like “Born to Run,” “Born in the U.S.A.,” and “The River,” as well as more recent releases like “Wrecking Ball” and “High Hopes.” He has won 20 Grammy Awards throughout his career, making him one of the most awarded artists in Grammy history. His first Grammy win was in 1985 for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance for his hit song “Dancing in the Dark.” He has won awards in a variety of categories, including Album of the Year, Best Rock Album, Song of the Year, and Best Rock Performance.
I would say The Boss has had a spectacular career. The track I rocked from Bruce was Glory Days. it reached #1 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Chart and #9 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was the sixth .. yes sixth single released from the album. That is unheard of nowadays. “Glory Days” is a classic Bruce Springsteen song that captures the spirit of youth and the bittersweet memories that come with growing older. Its catchy melody and sing-along chorus have made it a beloved hit, and its nostalgic lyrics have resonated with generations of fans. As Springsteen himself once said, “The best music is essentially there to provide you something to face the world with.” “Glory Days” does just that, providing listeners with a sense of hope and nostalgia that can help us face whatever the future may hold. The Music video has Bruce reminiscing the glory days as he walks up on a pitchers mound and starts pitching to a wooden back stop and it cuts to him performing the song in a juke joint / bar. The second artist / band up in the I’m from Jersey themed 80’s at 8 was … yep you got it, Bon Jovi. ohn Francis Bongiovi Jr., known professionally as Jon Bon Jovi, is an American singer-songwriter, actor, and philanthropist. He was born on March 2, 1962, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, and raised in Sayreville, New Jersey. In the early 1980s, Jon was working at his cousin’s recording studio, where he met keyboardist David Bryan. The two began playing together and eventually formed a band called Atlantic City Expressway, which also included guitarist Dave Sabo and bassist Alec John Such. After playing gigs around New Jersey, the band changed its name to Bon Jovi, a combination of Jon’s last name and the original name of the band. They quickly gained a following and signed a record deal with Mercury Records.
In 1984, Bon Jovi released their self-titled debut album, which included the hit singles “Runaway” and “She Don’t Know Me.” The album was a success and established the band as a force to be reckoned with in the rock world. Bon Jovi has enjoyed tremendous success over the years, with numerous Grammy Award wins, platinum albums, and sold-out concerts. The band has won several Grammy Awards, including Best Country Collaboration with Vocals for “Who Says You Can’t Go Home” in 2007 and Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal for “Livin’ on a Prayer” in 1987. They have also been inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2009. In terms of album sales, Bon Jovi has sold over 130 million records worldwide and has released thirteen studio albums, twelve of which have been certified platinum or multi-platinum by the RIAA. The band is also known for their high-energy live shows, which have sold out stadiums and arenas around the world. In 2013, Bon Jovi’s “Because We Can” tour was the highest-grossing tour of the year, earning over $259 million.
The track that I rocked by Bon Jovi is one of my personal favorites from the band. It was She Don’t Know Me. “She Don’t Know Me” was included on Bon Jovi’s self-titled debut album, which was released later in 1984. While the song didn’t make a huge impact on the charts, it helped to establish the band’s sound and style. The track is a classic example of Bon Jovi’s early sound, featuring a catchy guitar riff, upbeat drums, and Jon Bon Jovi’s signature vocals. The lyrics describe the frustration of a man who is in love with a woman who doesn’t even know he exists. It reached No. 48 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and No. 17 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart. In the UK, the song peaked at No. 78 on the UK Singles Chart. “She Don’t Know Me” was just the beginning of Bon Jovi’s rise to fame. The band went on to become one of the most successful rock acts of all time, selling over 130 million records worldwide and earning a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018. The music video starts out with John sitting alone at a bar and see’s a beautiful won walking out and not paying him any attention and that is Bon Jovi’s cue to bust out into She Don’t Know me you can check out the music video below:
