Will Bands Stop Releasing Albums?
So, it took seven years in between Avenged Sevenfold albums for us to finally get “Life Is But A Dream…” And as it turns out, the wait might be even longer for the next record. Actually, the next record may never come!! In a recent interview with Bassist Johnny Christ, he said that the band wanted this latest album to be a full experience as an album. He said they are unsure if they’ll do a full album again and might do singles later on in their career.
Christ added that Avenged designed Life Is But a Dream… as something fans should listen to all the way through. “At this moment, this is our body of work that we want everyone to get kind of at the same time and experience it from track one to track 11.”
Now, I understand times are different and bands can choose to release new music however they would prefer to do so. But, am I alone in thinking the album experience is just plain fun? I don’t know what you would want to forgo that. I find it so awesome to go on a musical journey with my favorite bands for 12 or 13 songs…….weaving in and out of slow and melodic, to up-tempo heavy bangers, back to a ballad and so forth. It creates a whole mood and experience and even encapsulates the band in that period of their writing and I love that!
Now don’t get me wrong, if I have to by singles from bands I will……but I think it is less enticing and less momentous an occasion when one song comes out as opposed to a full album. To take it step further than just the music, there’s more to it, when you throw in opening up the album and reading the lyrics and looking at the artwork. It’s just a fun ride.
