Tonight’s 80’s at 8 started with the band Fastway. Fastway, the legendary rock band formed by guitarist “Fast” Eddie Clarke of Motörhead and vocalist Dave King, graced the airwaves in the 1980s with their electrifying sound. One of their most iconic tracks, “Say What You Will,” captured the hearts of rock enthusiasts worldwide. Released as a single in 1983, it quickly soared up the charts and solidified Fastway’s place in rock ‘n’ roll history.
Upon its release, “Say What You Will” quickly gained traction, climbing the rock charts and resonating with audiences. Although it didn’t achieve massive mainstream success, the track made its mark on the rock scene. “Say What You Will” embodies the essence of Fastway’s sound with its energetic guitar riffs, driving rhythm section, and Dave King’s dynamic vocals. The song kicks off with a roaring guitar intro, setting the tone for the electrifying experience that follows. As the drums and bass kick in, the track gains momentum, propelling listeners into a whirlwind of rock ‘n’ roll frenzy.
“Say What You Will” is the opening track from Fastway’s self titled debut album. The second track in tonight’s 80’s at 8 was “Dancing on Glass” by Motley Crue. “Dancing on Glass” is the fourth track on Mötley Crüe’s album “Girls, Girls, Girls,” which hit the shelves in 1987. The album marked a significant milestone in the band’s career as they further embraced their glam metal roots while adding a gritty, streetwise edge. Produced by Tom Werman, known for his work with other rock acts like Cheap Trick and Ted Nugent, “Girls, Girls, Girls” became a defining moment for Mötley Crüe.
“Girls, Girls, Girls” attained Quadruple Platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), signifying the sale of over 4 million copies in the U.S. alone. It reached #2. on the US 200 album chart. on the week it could have reached #1, Whitney Houston’s second album “Whitney” debuted at #1.
“Dancing on Glass” encapsulates the spirit and decadence of Mötley Crüe’s heyday. Opening with a barrage of raw guitar riffs and thunderous drums, the song launches listeners into a whirlwind of debauchery and unbridled rock ‘n’ roll. Vince Neil’s soaring vocals perfectly capture the reckless abandon that defined the band’s image.
There is no music video for “Dancing on Glass”, but I did find a video of them performing it live in 1987 in Tacoma, Washington. You can check it out below:
