Used Cooking Oil? Florida Man Really Wants A Piece of This Action
DATELINE – Marathon FL
The market for recycling used cooking oil generates money.
Make that A LOT OF MONEY.
You may not know that. We certainly didn’t know that. But you know who does?
Florida Man, that’s who.
How else to explain why Reynier Rivero of Hialeah and Yadriel Zaragoza of Miami allegedly (of course) siphoned off nearly 300 gallons of used cooking oil from Herbie’s Bar and Chowder House into storage barrels?
The owner of the restaurant has a contract with a company that collects and recycles the used cooking oil which is ultimately turned into animal feed, biofuels, industrial lubricants, and detergents.
That means that Florida Mom might be washing Florida Kid’s clothes in this stuff.
Make no mistake – there is a HUGE market for used cooking oil. In 2021, experts say that the market for it was nearly $6 billion, and they expect it to be close to $10 billion by 2028.
So it’s no wonder why Florida Man would want a piece of that action!
By the way, deputies estimate the value of the stolen used cooking oil at about $1300.
