We Don’t Think Anyone Other Than Florida Man Would Steal This Vehicle
Vehicles are stolen every day in the United States. But we’re pretty sure that only Florida Man would even THINK about stealing this particular vehicle.
At least he had a good reason for doing it…or so he says.
FLORIDA MAN STRIKES AGAIN!
DATELINE – Marion County and the Saga of Florida Man Kevin Rodriguez Aponte, who was arrested a few days ago, charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle.
Now, vehicles are stolen all the time in Florida. They’re stolen all over the country. But Florida, they’ve got a high rate of vehicle theft.
But it wasn’t just any motor vehicle that he stole.
It was a street sweeper.
The incident began when a lawn care business owner reported that his street sweeper was missing from his shop. Well, they looked at surveillance video, and that revealed a pickup truck in the driveway with an individual inspecting that street sweeper. The individual was observed touching the street sweeper before it was removed from the property.
Now, the business owner suspected that Rodriguez Aponte, a former employee, might have taken the streetsweeper, the owner reasoning that only someone with the necessary training could operate this. And he believed that Rodriguez Aponte took it for personal use for his own business. About six months before this theft, Rodriguez Aponte had “separated from the company.”
That’s the owner’s language there, following an argument about his desire to establish his own business. I think “separated” is another word for “You’re fired!”
Meanwhile, Rodriguez Aponte (was) explicitly instructed not to return to the business or to utilize its equipment. But that didn’t stop Florida Man from calling the business a few days ago to request permission to use that street sweeper.
While that request was denied, it was easy enoughto locate Rodriguez Aponte and the street sweeper because the cops found him driving it on the road.
He was detained during a traffic stop. After being read his Miranda rights, Florida Man acknowledged that he did not have permission to use the street sweeper, but he claimed he needed it for a job in Ocala.
And, of course, he intended to return it.
Florida Man now transported to the Marion County Jail, where he was being held on $2,000 bond.
Wonder if he was at least able to get the street cleaned?
