I’ve loved the music of 311 since their early days. They’re so diverse and chameleon-like that it makes for some great music. The new 311 song is the perfect new album tease. It’s not even 3 minutes in length, but leaves you wanting more. Let’s discuss, shall we?
This is 311’s first new song in 5 years. It’s been awhile! It actually debuted live at this past 311 Day in Vegas. Fans were clamoring for the actual studio recording which we finally got recently. One of the thing you notice when you first put it on is it starts off with the feel of classic 311. It’s got a laid back, chill vibe, with overtones of something a little darker. When the chorus kicks in, it’s powerful and just kind of slaps you…..in a good way!
Also, I think it’s a benefit that the song is so short. I always see a lot of bands putting out 6 minutes songs, but when a band can be short, concise, and to the point with a lot of infectious melody, it just makes you crave more and more listens. In fact, this one clocks in at not even 3 minutes. Just under, which makes it short and sweet and makes me want more each time I hear it.
We do have to talk about the music video as well. It’s kind of like Fight Club or something, with an underground boxing ring in effect. Lead Vocalist Nick Hexum punches his way to victory against a tough opponent. And can I say, for as much as he’s aged, he still looks ripped and ready to tackle the world, which is pretty impressive.
All in all, I think it’s a song which showcases that 311 hasn’t forgotten their loyal fanbase and the sounds they like to hear, so many of us have high hopes for the new record whenever it finally does come out. I think it should be pretty amazing!

5 Top Godsmack Songs According To Jersey
I always love to see what songs by bands are the most loved. And I recently found the 5 Top Godsmack Songs according to Jersey! Based on our WDHA Listeners I was able to get a mini-survey done to find out which songs really hit home with people!
At 5 pm weekdays, I do First Call Last Call, a themed block of music for the ride home. About an hour before that, the theme is set at the WDHA Facebook page. I post a question of the day and base the tunes I play on listener responses. It’s always so much fun to read through answers. We have the absolute best listeners. SO musically smart and knowledgeable!!
It was recently the birthday of Robbie Merrill and when I posted that on our DHA Facebook page, I noted that there are probably a lot of people who don’t recognize that name. And that’s understandable. However, he’s an awesome bass player who just so happens to slap the strings for a band called Godsmack. He’s a co-founder of the band as well! And he’s a great musician who has some awesome bass lines in Godsmack.
That said, I thought we’d celebrate his birthday by playing the favorite songs of DHA listeners. And of course, the responses were all over the Godsmack catalog. They are such an intriguing band in the sense that they can bring the balls to the wall heavy and have you banging your head. But they can also turn it down and give you chills with their emotional tunes as well.
No matter what you’re a fan of, there’s a Godsmack song that will probably hit home. Sully and company are such great musicians that they appeal to so many types of rock listeners. So let’s take a look at the 5 Top Godsmack Songs according to Jersey!
BAD RELIGION
This is just a banger. So angry and fueled by a powerful riff. Sully singing about religion and sounding ticked off.
THE ENEMY
An uptempo, heavy riff rockin songs with some cuss words. It's so metal and cool sounding. Sully sounds mad again, but it's still fun and exciting to hear!
UNDER YOUR SCARS
They slow it down here with a really beautiful piano chord progression. The strings don't hurt either. Sully sounds vulnerable and emotional and it works really well!
I STAND ALONE
The album Faceless is one of my favorite Godsmack records. So many bangers on it. Just a powerful album and this tune in particular stands out as a highlight!
VOODOO
Those tribal drums are epic. And the melody is just so ctachy. It gets you hooked right from the beginning!
