Mastodon is one of the great modern metal bands we have and they are coming out with…..wait for it….their own pickles!! Yep, Mastodon pickles are a thing! How much more metal can you get baby?! I for one am super excited to try these things and support a great rocking band.
Mastodon is on their 8th studio album and has released several other albums as well including some live stuff and ep’s. What’s great about them is that they’ve honed their sound to become one of the biggest names in metal today. Their prog-like grooves and ambitious playing are a delight to hear.
The last album they released, 2021’s Hushed and Grim is a brilliant display of musicianship and has some emotional and introspective lyrics. Mastodon has always had a bit of a dark vibe to them, but still manage to bring the melody and hooks to their technical brand of heavy metal music.
Now, we get to eat them. Well, kind of. Mastodon has teamed up with Kelly’s Death Pickles, a company based out of Atlanta. What’s pretty cool is that there are four versions to choose from, each named after a member of the band! The list is as follows:
- Troy Sanders Diller Be Dilled – a traditional sour dill pickle exploding with garlic. (NO HEAT)
- Bill Kelliher Dead and Butterslax – our take on traditional, sweet bread and butter pickles with some unique added spices. (NO HEAT)
- Brann Dailor JalaBranño Dill – Jalapeño peppers infused into our dill pickle brine. (A KICK OF JALAPENO HEAT)
- Dirty B. Hinds Dill with the Devil – The name says it all. The hottest heat from Carolina Reaper peppers and just a bit of beet for the color added to our dill brine. These are HOT!

For any metal fan, this is a must-try. Why? Because metal music and pickles go together like….well, I don’t know, but this is just awesome!

Jersey Picks The Top 5 Rock Songs With A Person’s Name In The Title
Song titles can be interesting. Especially when they have a name. Is it a real person the band is singing about? Let’s take a look – Jersey Picks The Top 5 Rock Songs With a Person’s Name In The title.
So where did my info come from? Well, I posted my Question of the Day, looking at your favorite rock songs with a person’s name in the title. That hit the DHA Facebook page at 4 pm. Listeners commented for a while and then at 5 pm, it was time to put together a block of tunes for First Call Last Call to kick off the ride home at 5 pm. Reading listener responses is always cool and exciting. Some listeners give some interesting insight as to why they picked their band or song. And then of course it’s helpful to me because there’s always an answer I come across where I think, wow I forgot about that!!!
As I said, title can be very interesting. Some are provocative or mysterious. Others seem to lay out what the song is about just by hearing what it’s called. When there’s a name in the title I often wonder if that’s based on a real person or if it just fits the cadence of singing in the song. I always found one title intriguing – Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl apparently named the song “Her Johnny Park” from the Colour and The Shape after a real person. Apparently, it was a friend he grew up with and he was trying to find him!
Sadly, not all songs have such a great piece of actual information or truth. Or even speculation. Sometimes it’s just a name that fits the song well. And that’s ok too. But isn’t it really neat when there’s some mystery to it?
Let’s take a look as Jersey Picks The Top 5 Rock Songs With a Person’s Name In The Title.
CANDY'S ROOM - BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN
Darkness On The Edge of town is a fantastic record from Bruce. It's got some great moments. Including this one about a guy who's obsessing over a girl that lots of guys want.
JAMIE'S CRYING - VAN HALEN
I thought this one might make the list. Eddie's playing a great melodic and catchy chorus. It's a cool early rocker from the band!
LOLA - KINKS
We don't know if Lola is a transwoman or what. But that doesn't matter to the main character of the lyrics as he's infatuated with Lola. It doesn't hurt that it' a super infectious chorus.
JEREMY - PEARL JAM
From a debut album that was a juggernaut, this tune is haunting and important as it relates to gun violence in schools. That endriff is so cool too!
AMANDA - BOSTON
From the Third Stage album, this power ballad is pretty damn cool. Boston always had a style that was instantly recognizable and this one follows suit.
