Local Animal Control Officer – Sunny Nowell Takes Your Questions
Our local Animal Control Heroes. They ROCK! I met Sunny Nowell in 2010 and we became fast friends! Sunny is an animal rescue hero and a rocker for sure! Sunny was my first true introduction to Bully breeds, the first person I dressed up a dog with (to increase their adaptability), and one of the first people to call the request line in 2010, asking if she could bring some pups to WDHA to be highlighted on air.
She took my call on a moment’s notice when I found a sweet, highly adoptable kitten and told me what to do, AND when the late drumming legend Frankie Banali reached out and told me he and bass legend Rudy Sarzo were in town and would like to help a local shelter with their visibility, Sunny and I headed over to their hotel with Randolph Regional Animal Shelter pups!
She’s a force to be reckoned with!
What Is An Animal Control Officer?

I highlighted local ACO veteran Meredith Petrillo on last week’s Roundtable, who explained the role of the local Animal Control Officer, the career expectations and path one can take if interested in pursuing a life in animal rescue, and more.
In this edition, I collected a bunch of listener questions (and you guys and gals did a fantastic job submitting) and sat Sunny down for the proper answers! Sunny is so knowledgeable and informative and also is one of the main people behind the Randolph Regional Animal Shelter and truly a local rockstar in her own right.

WHAT DO YOU DO IF YOU FIND A STRAY? HOW DO YOU START A RESCUE?
Those questions and more are answered by Sunny. Working with local law enforcement is such an important part of our community, and the incredible ACOs play a large role in the way we interact with the animal community in our local municipalities.
Thanks for answering our questions Sunny!
Oh and check out Didi from the Randolph Regional Animal Shelter- Looking for a home! She’s awesome too!
