Trader Joe’s Everything Bagel Seasoning Banned In This Country
Trader Joe’s Everything Bagel Seasoning is one of the most popular items they sell in the USA. However, it has been banned in one country.
I make a trip to TJ’s in Brick about once a month. I tell myself I go monthly because that’s when I need to restock my box of JoJo’s cereal or cookies, or I want to see if they have any new hot sauces or chips. Lies. All lies. I go to Trader Joe’s once a month because that’s when I run out of the greatest product they make. Everything Bagel Seasoning.
Now you can get EBS in a lot of stores nowadays. I recently saw it in Aldi’s so I bought it. I love Aldi’s, but it’s not the same. It’s like Heather Thomas. She was good, but everyone knew she was just a cheap imitation of Heather Locklear, to put it in 1980s bombshell vernacular. No, Trader Joe’s Everything Bagel Seasoning is the shit. It might as well be named Everything because you can put it on just about everything! Pizza to pasta, meat and fish, even ice cream! DON’T JUDGE ME! It’s just awesome.
Which Is Why I Was Shocked, Stunned, And Saddened To Hear It Was Banned!
The ingredients in TJ’s EBS are simple yet delicious. According to a CNN article, the blend, which is popular with influencers and regularly spotted in recipes on TikTok, contains salt, minced garlic, sesame seeds, and poppy seeds – the last of which is banned in South Korea.
The CNN article goes on to say,
Travelers arriving at Seoul’s Incheon Airport (ICN) recently have reported seeing signs specifically mentioning the Everything But the Bagel seasoning mix not being permitted.
One poster on X, formerly known as Twitter, shared a poster from the airport. The sign had a picture of the seasoning mix and read in Korean, “We would like to inform you that the following products containing poppy seeds are restricted from being brought into the country as ‘Papaver Somniferum L,’ an ingredient of the poppy family designated as narcotic substance under South Korea’s narcotic drugs control law has been detected.”
“Seed products with narcotic substances have always been banned from being brought into Korea. Recently, the customs offices have been strengthening crackdown on narcotic related items,” an airport representative told CNN.
The poppy plant is a vital source for the same compounds which are found in painkillers like codeine and morphine as well as street drugs like heroin, although the seeds themselves don’t contain any opiates.
