Sometimes you find a video that blows your mind online. Like this one, where it shows you can slow down this Blink-182 song and it becomes emotional. Apparently, this was posted to YouTube a year ago, but I never saw it. Not, just a few days ago this clip found its way to TikTok and I’m all about it!
The song that’s slowed down and covered is Blink-182’s “Dammit.” When you think Blink, normally you think of 3 guys playing pop punk and joking around and acting very immature all to get a laugh. But when I saw this TikTok clip, it really changed my mind about them.
Now don’t get me wrong, I’m a Blink fan, so I know that they did a lot of maturing starting with their self-titled album, and even their latest effort “One More Time” it covers a range of emotions and even has some deep lyrical content. It’s just that sometimes a band kind of solidifies themselves as being one thing and it’s hard to break out of that mold.
Now, after hearing Alexandra Kay and her band covering “Dammit”, I don’t think I’ll ever mistakenly keep the band in one particular box. When you watch the video below, you really have to read the lyrics as Alexandra sings them.
She has a beautiful voice, but as you really dive into the lyrical content you see and hear that there’s a lot of heartache and emotion running through this song. It sounds like a silly little ditty, that just makes you feel good and makes you want to dance. But slowed down? With Alexandra’s voice? Let’s just say, it’s a whole other song.
I would like to hear her do more tunes this way. And I just bet that Blink has several others that would hit this way as well. Regardless, take a listen/look at the video below and be prepared to be taken aback at how emotional this tune is……
It’s A Linkin Park Special Event On YouTube This Thursday
We saw the Linkin Park countdown and then counted up. And now we are waiting for a Linkin Park special event on YouTube This Thursday.
The event will take place at 6pm EST on Youtube Thursday. More waiting , I know, but at least we know something is definitely coming. Or at least we think!
I was hoping that Linkin Park would be announcing either a tour with rotating vocalists or maybe even an album of new music starring guest vocalists throughout the album. I thought that would be something really fun and not take away from Chester Bennington’s legacy.
A tour would be fun to see the rest of the band. They are super talented and play so well live. I thought it’d be cool to have a tour with revolving singers at different locations or something like that. An album of new music would be tremendous as well, however instead of announcing one new singer, I thought they could just have different guests on each track.
What makes Linkin Park so special is their ability to craft songs that are all over the map sound and no two songs sound alike. There’s always a unique spin and they could go from ballad to in-your-face, loud, and heavy guitars in a matter of minutes. But of course, to me, the band was and always will be Chester Bennington. His voice was so extraordinary. He went from melodic, soft singing to near screams in just seconds. And live, he always sounded flawless.
The Linkin Park sound couldn’t be defined. It had elements of hip hop sure, but it was straight-up hard rock at moments - trippy, experimental tribal anthem the next. You really got a good mix that was so interesting!
BREAKING THE HABIT
What a cool, interesting vibe. It's got a lot going on in this tune, with some cool drums and a relatable lyrical theme from Chester. Really cool stuff!
MY DECEMBER
Such a dark sounding song. Yet it's hopeful and intriguing, and emotional all at once. A real masetrpiece.
WAITING FOR THE END
This one pumps me up. From the album that left fans divided "A Thousand Suns". There's no denying that this song is filled with hope and passion in Chester's voice.
LIES GREED MISERY
This is really a rare example of hip hop - metal. It's got elements from both genres and is so angst ridden, that it fuels and pumps you up. Such great screams towards the end!
SHADOW OF THE DAY
A really nice ballad that just has a lot of heart and emotion. Really a cool laid back vibe with a nice melodic hook!
