Tom Petty Documentary Coming To Theaters For The First Time Ever
The cult classic Tom Petty Documentary Coming To Theaters For The First Time Ever is your chance to see Cameron Crowe’s first feature film. You know Crowe for movies like Almost Famous, Jerry Maguire, and more, and if you’ve never seen his first film, or did a long time ago but want to revisit…..well, your chance is coming up!
The film, “Tom Petty: Heartbreakers Beach Party” will be in North Jersey/New York theaters for the first time on October 17th and October 20th. The movie has been fully restored and has 20 minutes of additional unreleased footage. Fans will experience Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers like never before with a new introduction from Crowe himself and an all-new 20-minute cut of unreleased outtakes from the awesome director!
The documentary aired once on MTV in 1983 at 2:00 AM and then was yanked from the channel. Crowe says that it “just shows that it was indeed an outlandish feast for fans in all the best ways.”
This cinematic event marks the first time TOM PETTY: HEARTBREAKERS BEACH PARTY has been seen on the big screen, fully remastered in 4K. As I said, it originally aired only once on MTV in February 1983, it was Crowe’s directorial debut and pirated versions have been coveted by fans ever since. But what is it exactly? What do you get in the film?

The film shows an era-defining look at rock & roll in 1982 when Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers finished, promoted, and toured around the groundbreaking album Long After Dark. This is the band’s third and final album with legendary rock producer Jimmy Iovine. And if you’re looking for more music, there’s also a huge reissue Long After Dark (Deluxe Reissue), featuring a collection of rediscovered and unheard songs being released on October 18.
