Halestorm Covering ‘Boot Scootin’ Boogie’ for Brooks & Dunn Album
Halestorm is dipping its toes into the country world and will be featured on a new album from legendary duo Brooks & Dunn.
The band is one of 18 artists on Reboot 2, which is due out on November 15 and is available for pre-order here.
Per the Brooks & Dunn website, the album is the follow-up to 2019’s Reboot and ” … follows the same format, except this time, a brand new group of today’s most engaging artists–from country and beyond–were given maximum creative freedom. The duo gave one simple direction: to reimagine the song to fit their own taste and style from the ground up.”
So, which Brooks & Dunn song will Halestorm cover for the LP? The 1992 No. 1 country hit “Boot Scootin’ Boogie.”
Following the announcement of the album, Lzzy Hale took to Instagram where she described what Halestorm’s take on “Boot Scootin’s Boogie” will sound like.
Hale began, “Months ago, we opened an email we were never expecting to receive. Brooks and Dunn asking us to create a reimagined version of their legendary song ‘Boot Scootin’ Boogie.’
This, a request too wild to even consider passing on, more than wet our appetite for adventure.”
She added, ” … We started down the rabbit hole, and late one night began to cook up a concept. What if Lemmy from Motörhead was a member of Led Zeppelin and THEY birthed a song called ‘Boot Scootin’ Boogie,’ what would that sound like? So, in the basement of our Halestorm HQ, we created a dirty, fast, raw, energy riddled version of this epic classic.”
Hale continued, “The next day we went to Blackbird Studios in Nashville TN to work with the legendary Dan Huff on the song, and were greeted with the entire Brooks and Dunn posse! We plugged in and performed Boot Scoot for the first time while everyone watched in the control room. Last note still ringing, the whole studio erupted with excitement and a good dose of shock. We were relieved that they loved it, that we passed the audition, and that we somehow matched Ronnie Dunns mushroom trip premonitions for this particular project.”
She concluded, “It’s such an honor to have earned the trust of these legends, thank you so much to Kix Brooks, Ronnie Dunn, Dan Huff, Juice and the entire B&D team for putting your faith in us and letting us throw a wild party in the beautiful house you built!”
Halestorm has released three covers EP in their career since 2011. They’ve covered a number of rock artists, including Guns N’ Roses and Soundgarden. However, the band has covered some surprising artists, too. Among those artists are Lady Gaga, Daft Punk and Sophie B. Hawkins.
In the past couple of years, Halestorm has recorded and released a cover of “I Will Always Love You,” which was written by Dolly Parton but made into a pop/R&B smash by Whitney Houston. The band has also covered The Who’s “Long Live Rock” for the hard rock documentary Long Live Rock…Celebrate the Choas.
