Mike Tramp Of White Lion Talks The 80s, The Band’s Breakup, Making Music Today, & More
Having Mike Tramp on the show was an interviewer’s dream come true- When an artist comes in and says to me- “Let’s Talk About Life On The Air Today”……I know it is going to be a fantastic, loose and impromptu hour. It was with Mike Tramp.
White Lion was a multi-million selling, MTV staple, touring machine, that defined 80’s hard rock and hair metal. They were also a group of super-talented musicians who decided to disband their successful machine less than ten years after they formed. With hits like “Wait”, “When The Children Cry”, “Little Fighter” and more, you can’t think of 80’s rock without them.
My first interview with Mike Tramp was over 30 years ago. My recollection was it was at the Trocadero Club in Philadelphia and I had a mini tape recorder that I’m not even sure I turned on! (I was a new DJ, sometimes those things happened!) My other recollection was that Mike Tramp was lovely to speak with and super beautiful. Back then, the guys gave us gals a run for our money in the looks department for sure!
What We Discussed- (As we headed back in time and looked to the future)
I referred to White Lion as a “lightning in a bottle” band- They came, they conquered, they left.
But in between, there was conflict, drama, and creative challenges. Mike discusses his relationship with guitar master Vito Bratta, the record industry and getting replaced without warning, his early years as a teen idol in Denmark, becoming an East Coast resident and the L’Amour scene and much more.
Mike Tramp has also carried on with a solo career that has spanned decades with new music and has recreated the White Lion classics with – “Songs Of White Lion – Volume’s 1 and 2” – available now, giving fans a new take of the bands classic catalog. Will we get a Volume 3? Mike tells us.
Thanks for the great hang Mike! Please come back and see us!
