When The Shelter Is Full – Our Friends at AHS In Newark NEED Our Help

4 words I never want to hear, yet have been hearing more and more. It's Terrie Carr, and the reality of shelter work, shelter life, and rescue, in general, is that it is not easy and the challenges NEVER go away. My initiative in developing the WDHA Rock N' Ruff program, is two main goals. Dispelling the myth that shelter dogs are less, AND helping to move animals out of rescue. The second part has been getting harder and harder. Associated Humane Societies in Newark NJ needs our help. The shelter is FULL. They are located at 124 Evergreen Ave, Newark, NJ, - and can be reached at -

I have worked for many years with AHS at events and with our WDHA Rock N' Ruff program. I can tell you the pups are awesome. We have had so many AHS rescues featured in our WDHA Ultimate Rock Dogs calendar that have found amazing homes.

What Happens When The Shelter Is Full? 

Rescue groups can only do so much. The harsh reality is a full shelter or rescue group is not good news for the animals. Especially those that have been in a shelter for a long time.  Saving a life is what it's all about. The plea is real. If you are thinking of adoption, please consider our rescue groups like Associated Humane in Newark, which are overrun. Also, see if you can connect with an older dog. They run a higher risk of a bleak future. if you've ever thought of fostering, now is a great time. Many rescue groups like AHS are overwhelmed with animals.

The weekend was tough for me, knowing how many dogs are at risk.  Let us be their voices and help. Thank you to those who have stepped up to help so far.

National Dog Day is celebrated on August 26th every year. It's a day to celebrate the love, companionship, and dedication of our best friends! OUR DOGS!

It's Terrie Carr and our incredible friends at Calandra's Il Vecchio Cafe' invited us back for a second year to celebrate with them on their gorgeous Tuscan Patio with our dogs and we were thrilled to accept the invitation.

Dogs, humans, and friends, the furry family packed the house for incredible food, canine cocktails, and the incredibly yummy doggie menu.

Calandra's is known for their incredible Bakery Calandra's Bakery and their Italian Village have many terrific ways to dine. Il Vecchio Cafe and La Taverna Lounge are amazing dining experiences, offering some of the Garden State's most delicious Italian classics and innovative dishes. 

On the patio at Il Vecchio Cafe'? You bet! Calandra's has experienced how their diners have reacted to pet-friendly dining and their outdoor patio is always open to our furry friends. There are water bowls, a doggie menu, and plenty of room. It's pretty amazing to attend, as every time I have participated, the dogs are so well-behaved the dogs are quieter than the humans! Well, can you blame them? The Pawgarita's are FANTASTIC!

It's always inspiring for me as the creator of Rock N' Ruff and The RNR Roundtable AND being the world's biggest puppy fan to have some downtime with our listeners and their pups, so thank you all so much for coming out. I love spending some time with you.
