Social Media Scrolling can affect you and that's not good. So, let's take a look at how to combat Brain Rot.
I’m not one to post a lot on social media, however I do lurk. You know what I mean – I just kind of mindlessly scroll through me various feeds and look at pictures of people’s pets or dinner that they made. But what purpose does this serve?
Turns out, it doesn’t do a lot of good for you and in fact can cause Brain Rot. Now, this isn’t an actual medical condition, but it is something to be taken seriously. If you’ve ever felt like your brain is melting away from spending hours on social media…..it kind of is!
Brain Rot was Oxford’s 2024 Word OF The Year. As I said it’s not an actual medical condition. But it is in fact real. The term has seen a 230% increase in usage over the past year. And experts have something to say about it.
According to those smarter than me, too much time online can actually mess with your memory, decision-making, and overall mental health! Yep, just from scrolling on social media for a bit. It’s pretty scary to think how much harm just mindlessly scrolling can cause.
What you can do to combat these things isn’t revolutionary, but maybe just reading it will give you the desire to follow the expert’s advice. It’s pretty simple actually. First off, you should take breaks while looking at social media. What to do? Well, the best things would be exercise, do a hobby that you love, spend time in nature, or something similar that gets you away from the apps and computer.
I think so many of us are guilty of letting Brain Rot sink in, but it’s somewhat comforting to know we’re not alone. Personally, after hearing about this, I’m thinking of getting more involved in my hobbies. Playing drums, retro gaming, reading. Oh, and maybe a nice long walk or two. All of that can help save my brain. So why not stop scrolling and start doing something more useful?!
