Metal with the Mikes is giving you the chance to win a pair of tickets to see Kamelot at the Wellmont Theater on Wednesday, May 1st!
Kamelot, originally known as Camelot, was formed in Tampa, Florida by guitarist and only original remaining member Thomas Youngblood in 1987. After some member changes, two demos, and changing the ‘C’ to a ‘K’ in their name in 1991, Kamelot released its first album Eternity in 1995 after signing with Noise Records. In 1997 the band released their second album Dominion, which was quickly followed by 1998’s Siége Perilous and 1999’s The Fourth Legacy. By the time The Fourth Legacy was released, the band had toured multiple times across Europe as well as in the United States. In mid-2000 Kamelot went on the “New Allegiance Tour” through Europe including dates in Germany, Switzerland, Italy, and Spain. Recordings from this tour would end up as their first live album titled The Expedition released later that same year. With the band’s 5th studio album Karma (2001) the band finally started to chart and, while rather low and only in Germany and Japan, it was the start of the band’s climb to being a massive name in power metal.
In 2003, Kamelot released Epica which saw them gain traction and charting higher than they did with Karma and bringing in some more overseas charts as well. This album, as well as the following The Black Halo (2005) were based on the legend of Faust and included even more touring through Europe that had them at the massive Graspop Metal Meeting. 2005 also saw the first of Kamelot’s music videos in “The Haunting (Somewhere in Time)” and “March of Mephisto” off The Black Halo. In 2007 the band released Ghost Opera, the touring of which led to festivals such as Rock am Ring, Sonisphere, and the legendary Wacken Open Air. With the release of 2010’s Poetry for the Poisoned, the band finally cracked the two most difficult chart markets in the US and UK, with numbers climbing across the world. Since then, the band’s popularity has only grown, with the release of Silverthorn (2012), Haven (2015), The Shadow Theory (2018), and The Awakening (2023) the band has hit number one on the US Hard Rock charts and continued to tour across the world.
