The Offspring 8-2-25_Featured

Listen all week to The Morning Mic Drop with Mike Anthony from 6am to 10am for your chance to win a pair of tickets to see The Offspring at the PNC Bank Arts Center on Saturday, August 2nd!

Formed in Garden Grove, California in 1984 by lead vocalist and guitarist Dexter Holland, The Offspring have grown to become one of the most iconic skate punk and rock artists of the modern era. Currently, the band consists of Holland, lead guitarist and longtime member Kevin “Noodles” Wasserman, rhythm guitarist Jonah Nimoy, bassist Todd Morse, and drummer Brandon Pertzbom.

After working on a handful of demos and releasing their first single “I’ll Be Waiting” in 1986, The Offspring would release their debut self-titled album in 1989. This was followed up by the 1991 EP Baghdad and their second album Ignition in 1992. These releases provided enough success for the band to steadily grow, touring the U.S. with Pennywise and Lunachicks as well as a Eurpean tour with NOFX.

With the release of The Offspring’s third album Smash in 1994, the band’s popularity skyrocketed, although not overnight. The album took some time to gain traction, but with some well-timed radio airplay of the single “Come Out and Play”, Smash became a smash-hit, eventually topping charts around the world, if not landing in their top 5’s. The other two singles “Self Esteem” and “Gotta Get Away”, as well as the track “Bad Habit” have become some of the band’s biggest hits to date.

With the success of Smash launching their career to new heights, The Offspring would have an extremely successful end to the 90’s. Their next two albums, Ixnay on the Hombre (1996) and Americana (1998), were also extremely successful for the group, the former less than the latter. Combined, the two albums brought the band’s hits “Gone Away”, “All I Want”, “Why Don’t You Get a Job”, and their two biggest hits in “The Kids Aren’t Alright” and “Pretty Fly (For a White Guy)”.

After making a cameo in 1999’s Idle Hands as themselves, The Offspring released Conspiracy of One in 2000. The album was followed by 2003’s album Splinter and 2005’s greatest hits compilation, simply titled Greatest Hits. They rounded out the 2000’s with the release of their 8th album Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace in 2008. Since then, the second single “You’re Gonna Go Far, Kid” has become one of their most played songs and a live set staple.

In 2012, The Offspring released the album Days go By, an album that critics didn’t appreciate as much as many fans did. The rest of the 2010’s saw the band tour heavily, only releasing a few singles including “Coming for You”, a handful of covers of punk legends Pennywise and Bad Religion on the Summer Nationals EP, as well as swapping songs with 311, The Offspring covering “Down” and 311 covering “Self Esteem”. It wasn’t until 2020 that the band would being releasing music regularly again.

During the covid shutdown of 2020, The Offspring sat on their new album, instead releasing a cover of Joe Exotic’s “Here Kitty Kitty” and of Darlene Love’s “Christmas (Baby Please come Home)”. Finally, in April of 2021, the band released the album Let the Bad Times Roll. The album contained the very catchy title track, as well as a piano ballad version of “Gone Away”.

At the end of 2024, The Offspring released their most recent 11th album Supercharged. The album has done considerably well, but with it still being so new, it is still to be known if the album would produce any real long-term hits for the band.
