Metal With The Mikes

WDHA’s Metal with the Mikes is giving you the chance to win a pair of tickets to see Hollywood Undead and Tech N9ne at the Starland Ballroom on Friday, May 9th!

While they may go everywhere, Hollywood Undead was started in Los Angeles California in 2005 by Jorel “J-Dog” Decker and now former members Aron “Deuce” Erlichman and Jeff “Shady Jeff” Phillips. Shortly after the once-masked rap-rock group started, Dylan “Funny Man” Alvarez, George “Johnny 3 Tears” Ragan, Jordon “Charlie Scene” Terrell, and now former member Matthew “Da Kurlzz” Busek joined. Rounding out the current lineup are Danny Murillo and touring drummer Matt “The Cat” Oloffson.

In 2008, the band released their debut album Swan Songs which would reach number 22 on the Billboard 200 chart and produced one of the band’s biggest hits in the single “Everywhere I Go”, with other songs featured in games like UFC Undisputed 2009, Madden NFL 09, and Rock Band 2. Since then, the band has continued with their signature rap-rock style, ditched their masked personas, and stuck with their abrasive and occasionally offensive or controversial lyrics, releasing 8 total albums with each reaching considerable success and touring the world.

Aaron Dontez Yates, better known by his state name Tech N9ne, is a rapper that has been actively making music since 1991. Known for being one of the fastest around and rapping in the chopper style, Tech N9ne has sold over two million albums and has had his music in various other forms of media. Over time, Tech started to cross into rock and metal, appearing at the Insane Clown Posse’s tenth annual Gathering of the Juggalos in 2009. In 2011, he would release the album All 6’s and 7’s, which featured both massive rap and rock artists such as Busta Rhymes, Kendrick Lamar and Deftones.

In true rap fashion, Tech N9ne has continued to bring collabs throughout his career, including other rappers as well as rockers such as Corey Taylor, Serj Tankian. Over time, the rock and metal community began to return the favor, bringing him more and more into their world. He began making appearances at rock and metal fests like the Blue Ridge Rock Fest and appeared on Corey Taylor’s “CMFT Must Be Stopped” and Falling In Reverse’s “Ronald” alongside Slaughter to Prevail’s Alex Terrible.
