The Mikes of WDHA’s Metal with the Mikes are giving you the chance to win a pair of tickets to see Jinjer at the Starland Ballroom on Friday, September 20th!
One of the most famous Ukrainian metal bands of all time, Jinjer, has been rocking their way up the United States’ music scene ever since 2008. The band is currently made up of four members. On lead vocals is Tatiana “Tati” Shmayluk, Roman Ibramkhalilov on guitar, Eugene Abdukhanov on bass, and Vladislav “Vladi” Ulasevich on drums.
In 2009, Jinjer released their first EP titled Objects in Mirror Are Closer Than They Appear which featured four songs. Three years later, their second EP, Inhale, Don’t Breathe (2012), was released. The band was still independent at the time and had to tour the EPs using their own funds. However, after the release of their last EP, they were discovered by Leaders Records that same year. The next few years were very successful for the group, gaining themselves even more attention and recognition for their talent. In 2013, they won their first Best Ukrainian Metal Act award.
In 2014, Jinjer released their first studio recorded full-length album through Napalm Records titled Cloud Factory. This album featured some of their most iconic songs such as “Outlander,” “Cloud Factory,” and “Bad Water.” After this album’s release, the band started touring internationally for the first time.
Their second album, King of Everything, was released in 2016, quickly becoming one of their most popular albums of all time. This album featured some of their most well-known songs including “Pisces,” “Just Another,” “Sit Stay Roll Over,” “Words of Wisdom,” and more. Their song “Pisces” even made its way onto “The Top 100 Greatest Metal Songs of the 21st Century” list featured in the music magazine, Metal Hammer. The following year, the band continued touring internationally, including their first ever tour in North America.
Jinjer did not intend on slowing down their success. In 2018, the band made their way onto Billboard’s Next Big Sound chart. One year later, they continued releasing music, while attempting new sounds, including their latest EP Micro and their album Macro. Those projects included some of their most popular songs such as “Perennial,” “Home Back,” “On the Top,” etc. Macro was even declared as one of the fifty best metal albums of the entire year. The group is finally able to tour their latest album, Wallflowers (2021), internationally. This album includes instant favorite songs of theirs including “Mediator,” “Copycat,” “Wallflower,” and more.
