Metal With The Mikes

The Mikes of WDHA’s Metal with the Mikes are giving you the chance to win a pair of tickets to see Knocked Loose at the Stone Pony Summer Stage on Sunday, October 6th!

In just over 10 years, Oldham County, Kentucky’s Knocked Loose went from nobodies just getting their start to playing Madison Square Garden as main support for Slipknot. Formed in June of 2013 by vocalist Bryan Garris, guitarist Isaac Hale, bassist Kevin Otten, and then drummer Dylan Isaacs, the band got their start on Little Heart Records with a series of singles in 2013.

Just under a year after forming, Knocked Loose released their debut EP Pop Culture (2014), which allowed them to tour excessively in the US. The young band was able to tour in support of bigger bands such as Counterparts, The Acacia Strain, and Stick to Your Guns by 2016, which further gained them traction in the hardcore scene.

In the Fall of 2016, Knocked Loose released their debut album Laugh Tracks, which contains live staples and fan favorites such as “Oblivions Peak”, “Deadringer”, and “Billy No Mates”, the latter of which features Brendan Murphy of Counterparts. The album also contains the band’s biggest song in “Counting Worms”, a short and simple, yet almost anthemic, track that has the often quoted “arf arf” that exploded on social media. As a whole, the album received predominantly positive reviews upon release.

In 2017 Knocked Loose jumped on a series of tours supporting the now defunct Every Time I Die in the US and UK, as well as the entirety of the Vans Warped Tour before announcing their first US headlining tour with hardcore legends Terror, Jesus Piece, and Year of the Knife. After selling out nearly every date of their first headliner, the band moved higher up the chain of popularity and therefore better spots on tours, including opening for Parkway Drive, Thy Art Is Murder, and getting a handful of Warped Tour main stage sets.

By the end of 2018, Knocked Loose was main support on Beartooth’s Disease Tour before announcing another headlining tour in the Spring of 2019, this time bringing The Acacia Strain on as main support. As a part of this tour, the band started to release the singles for their upcoming album A Different Shade of Blue which was released in August of 2019.

A Different Shade of Blue contains a few of Knocked Loose’s set staples such as “Mistakes Like Fractures” and “…And Still I Wander South”, but most of the other songs on the album cycle through their set regularly. The album received even more positive reviews, and was even named in several “Best Albums of 2019” lists. The album also landed at number 31 on Loudwire’s “The 66 Best Metal Albums of the Decade: 2010-2019″.

Knocked Loose would go on a few other headlining tours with bands such as Gatecreeper, Stick to Your Guns, and Rotting Out before opening for Gojira’s tour in the fall of 2021. In October of 2021, the band surprise dropped A Tear In The Fabric Of Life, a concept EP that, according to Bryan Garris, is “a story about extreme grief and the levels a person is willing to go through to get rid of it”. The EP itself is masterfully done, with the story being conveyed both lyrically and musically, but along with the EP came an animated short film that really hammers the feelings of grief and loss home.

Even though A Tear In The Fabric Of Life is only 6 songs, almost all of the songs appear in Knocked Loose’s headlining sets, occasionally in a full front-to-back playthrough, otherwise they rely heavily on “God Knows” and the intro track “Where The Light Divides The Holler”.

The band continued to tour extensively following the pandemic, their stage presence, stage setup, and stage size all increasing with each practically sold-out tour. With the metal and hardcore communities waiting for the follow up to A Tear In The Fabric Of Life, Knocked Loose put out another surprise release with the Upon Loss Singles, “Deep in the Willow” and “Everything is Quiet Now”, both of which have been closing their set since their release.

Most recently, Knocked Loose released their latest album You Won’t Go Before You’re Supposed To (2024). The album did extremely well on the charts, topping the UK Rock & Metal Albums chart, as well as peaking at 23 on the Billboard 200 chart. It features singles such as “Suffocate” which features YouTube star-turned metal artist Poppy and current set opener “Blinding Faith”, as well as a sequel to Motionless In White’s “Slaughterhouse” which featured Garris that features Chris Motionless.

Now, fresh off an entirely sold-out headlining tour and touring in support of Slipknot’s self-titled’s 25th anniversary, the band has announced another US headlining tour, this time heading out with The Garden, Drain, and Militarie Gun.
