Check out Dogstar at the Sherman Theater in Stroudsburg, PA on Saturday October 7th!
Returning after breaking up almost 11 years ago, Dogstar consists of Robert Mailhouse, Bret Domrose, and Keanu Reeves. Back in 1991, while in a supermarket, Mailhouse and Reeves met on pure happenstance and bonded over Mailhouse’s Detroit Red Wings jersey. By 1992, the chance meeting turned into constant jamming and adding Gregg Miller and workshopping names, the first ones essentially being crude poop jokes, before landing on Dogstar, inspired by Henry Miller’s Sexus. In 1994, the band was joined by Bret Domrose, followed by an intense amount of touring, including opening for David Bowie and Bon Jovi. Following these tours, Miller left the band, leaving the lineup in its current state. In 1996, the band released their first recorded tracks in the EP Quattro Formaggi, quickly followed by the debut album Our Little Visionary which was mostly distributed in Japan.
In 1999, despite all three members having other work commitments to worry about including one of Keanu’s biggest early roles as Neo in The Matrix, the band was still able to release their second album Happy Ending and play a few more shows, with their final being October 2002 in Japan. That is, final until the COVID-19 pandemic led to the three members jamming more often. Those jam sessions turned into eight-hour days of jamming and rehearing, which turned into writing sessions, which turned into a new album and a post on their social media simply saying “We’re back”. Since returning to the stage in May of 2023 at the BottleRock Napa Valley festival, the band has released “Everything Turns Around” and “Breach” off of their upcoming release Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees and announced a tour across the US and Japan in support of the album.
