Check out Kenny Wayne Shepherd at the Beacon Theater on Friday, March 15th!
Kenny Wayne Shepherd started his career as a young 16-year-old blues rock guitarist. Shepherd began playing the guitar at age seven after witnessing American rock artist Stevie Ray Vaughn perform live. 100% self-taught, Kenny Wayne Shepherd signed with Giant Records in the early 90s and began releasing hit after hit. Vocalist Noah Hunt joined Shepherd in 1997 and has become synonymous with being the voice behind Shepherd’s signature song “Blue on Black.”
The hit that went straight to the top of Mainstream Rock Songs in 1998 has had a resurgence over the past few years after hard rock band Five Finger Death Punch recorded a cover of the southern country mainstay in 2018. The well-received cover then led to KWS himself to join hands with FFDP and release another version of the song.
Kenny Wayne Shepherd has been nominated for five Grammy Awards that stretch from 1999 to the early 2010s and has received two Billboard Music Awards. In the thirty years since his recording career began, Kenny Wayne Shepherd has released several albums, seven of which have been ranked #1, and established his self-titled band along the way. As of today, Shepherd currently holds the record for the longest running album on the Billboard Blue Charts with his first album, Trouble Is… and most recently released a complete re-recording of the album in honor of its 25th anniversary.
The Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band infuses blues with rock n’ roll to create music for listeners of any age to enjoy. Current members include Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Noah Hunt on vocals, drummer Chris Layton, and Joe Krown on the piano/organ. KWS Band have made countless appearances on late-night television and have performed as opening acts for popular rock groups Van Halen, Bob Dylan, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Aerosmith.
Most recently, KWS Band has announced the release of their newest studio album, Dirt On My Diamonds, Vol. 1, slated for mid-November. The release of their album will coincide with a 2024 US tour.
