Neil Young, also known as the “Godfather of Grunge”, is a Canadian American music artist and filmmaker from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Known for his guitar-work, high tenor voice, and deeply meaningful lyrics. Young started performing as a teen in local Toronto coffeehouses performing both folk and rock—leading him to gain traction and move to Los Angeles in 1966 to form Buffalo Springfield, a band pioneering in the folk-rock space.

The band achieved success in the newly formed space, with songs like “For What It’s Worth” and “Expecting to Fly” before disbanding in 1968. Proceeding the band disbanding, Neil launched his solo career still experimenting in multiple genres of folk, rock, and country becoming well-known for his distinctive attributes in lyrics and voice. His songs are also notorious for including social and environmental issues, reflecting his activist stance with songs like “Let’s Roll” and “Ohio”.

Young also dabbles in film as well under the pseudonym “Bernard Shakey”, with credits in “Journey Through the Past” and “Rust Never Sleeps”, just like his music, his filmmaking style is also experimental in nature offering his audiences a front row seat into his creative processes and personal journey. His films reflect himself, his music and his world view, as a boundary-pushing artist.

His efforts have made him a two-time Grammy winner with 27 nominations in multiple categories, a nine-time Juno winner with 31 nominations, and a two-time inductee to the Rock and Roll Hall of fame for both his solo career and Buffalo Springfield, in 1995 and 1997 respectively. As of late, young released his 45th album, “Before and After” with 13 tracks, with his leading six-minute track “I’m the Ocean”, Young is also set to perform at a number of festivals including the “Bourbon & Beyond” festival with other known artists Zach Bryan, Tyler Childers, and Dave Matthews Band, and more, before he embarks on his next tour in 2024.
