Originated in San Francisco, California 1979, Night Ranger is made up with five members, with guitarist Brad Gills, bassist and lead vocals Jack Blades, and drummer Kelly Keagy being the only original members remaining, and keyboard player Eric Levy and guitarist Keri Kelli the lead and rhythm guitar player rounding out the lineup. These five members have been playing together in the band since 2014. The band’s second album in 1984 Midnight Madness helped start band’s fame. “Sister Christian” was their top hit which hit the Billboard Hot 100 at number five in June of 1984. This is what helped the band to be able to headline shows. Most of their biggest hits came from the Midnight Madness (1984), 7 Wishes (1985) and Dawn Patrol (1982) albums. Some of those songs include “Rock In America”, “Goodbye” and “Don’t Tell Me You Love Me”. In 1989, the band decided to split up after their Man in Motion tour, the band went their separate ways because they realized that touring was a lot and some members wanted to pursue other music careers. Soon after in 1991 Night Ranger started back up again but with only three members. These include Kelly Keagy, Brad Gillis and Gary Moon. Jack Blades did not join the band until after 1996. Night Ranger has a wide selection of music to their name. Starting with twelve studio albums, nine live albums, six compilation albums, sixteen singles and four video albums. Night Ranger has sold over 17 million albums across their career. As for streaming, the band gets about one million streams a month. Throughout their career the band has performed on over 4,000 different stages. On May 13th and 14th 1980, Night Ranger opened for Journey in Ohio at Toledo Sports Arena. By 1984 they started opening for ZZ Top and then started their first headlining tour in April of 1984 and ended in August the same year. The band has shared the same stage with big names like KISS, Blue Öyster Cult, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, U2, Black Sabbath, Ozzy Ozborne, Metallica and so many more. As the years went on Night Ranger didn’t tour as much until 2011, when they went on tour with Journey for their Eclipse Tour. Night Ranger joined Journey in Europe, North America, Central America and Puerto Rico until December of 2012. Over the next few years Night Ranger toured and played festivals. The most recent album Night Rangers has put out is ATBPO (2021) and in 2023 they released the live album 40 Years and a Night (With Contemporary Youth Orchestra). Throughout 2024 they were on tour celebrating their 40th anniversary. Tickets are available now at stnj.org.
